Obituary for Shirley Rivo

Shirley Rivo
The Family writes --

With profound love and deep sadness, we announce the passing of Shirley (nee Winthrope) Rivo on October 15, 2023. Shirley was a beautiful woman in every respect and beloved by everyone.

Shirley will be missed by her children and their partners Morissa Rivo (Neil Rosenstein), Sandra Rivo (Stuart Siden), and Philip Rivo (Iris Rivo) along with grandchildren Andrea (Dave) Friedman, Julia Metraux, David Metraux, Samuel Rivo, and Lily Rivo, and great grandchildren Gabriel, Elliot, and Zachary.

Shirley was pre-deceased by her husband, Julian Rivo. They shared 57 meaningful years together, raising their family in Buffalo and Albany, New York, and Murray Hill, New Jersey.

Born on June 28, 1925 with a smile on her face in Toronto, Canada, Shirley was pre-deceased by her mother, Esther Winthrope and brother Gordon Winthrope.

Shirley's creativity and artistic skill were ever present. Ultimately, Shirley became a professional artist and teacher with exhibitions across North America. Always eager to learn, Shirley received her B.A. and M.F.A. in her 40s.
.
After Julian's passing, Shirley made Boca Raton, Florida her home where she enjoyed life to the fullest. In their 90's, Shirley and Larry Mergl became loving companions.

An open-minded thinker with a warm heart, Shirley touched everyone with her kindness and grace. Beautiful Shirley is watching over all of us now.
